6 steps to building a house with Hermes

If you’re thinking about building a house, you probably want to know how the building process works. Here’s a general guide to the Hermes way.

STEP 1: GET IN TOUCH

Whether you already have your plans drawn up, or you are just starting out, we are happy to answer any questions you have about your project. In our experience, the best builds are the ones where clients speak to us first about their concept, budget and timeframe before engaging an architect. We will work with your architect of choice or we can recommend some we regularly work with.

Based in Seddon, Hermes Building works exclusively in Melbourne’s western suburbs. This means we understand the history, regulations and eccentricities involved with building in Seddon, Yarraville, Footscray, Spotswood and Newport.

STEP 2: FREE CONSULTATION

Here’s where we like to really understand your aspirations and overall end goal for your home. This is when you can ask as many questions as you like, so that we can put to rest any fears about what is – or is not – possible given the existing layout of your house or block. At the end of this appointment we’ll give you a clear date for when you can expect your free personalised quote.

STEP 3: CONSIDERING OUR QUOTE

One of the most important parts of engaging a builder is the quoting process. And, we know you are likely to compare at least three – in fact, we encourage it. We pride ourselves on being true value builders – that means we won’t under quote our work, or leave items out to win your business. We recommend all instructions issued to a builder during the tender process should be in writing and provided to each builder so that you are comparing apples with apples.

STEP 4: SECOND APPOINTMENT AND BUILDING CONTRACT

If you notify us of your intent to go ahead, we will arrange a further appointment to complete the building contract. During this time, you will be notified of the building timeline for completion and payment schedules. This gives you an exact idea of what to expect and when – including your start date!

STEP 5: DURING THE BUILD

We will inform you of the selections you need to make well in advance so that you don’t feel rushed into making hasty choices. Keeping you informed of any updates via phone is guaranteed, and we issue weekly email progress reports for your records. We also understand every dollar counts, which is why we work hard to accommodate you living in the house while we work.

STEP 6: WRAPPING UP YOUR PROJECT
